Facial Aesthetics

Reduce lines and wrinkles with our affordable and safe treatment. At The Briar’s Dental Centre, we offer a wide range of treatments designed to deal with excessive ageing of the skin.

Wrinkling of the skin can be accelerated by excessive stress and worry, most notably in frown lines, forehead creases and crow’s feet. These signs of stress can be dramatically reduced by using well-established techniques for the treatment of ageing. Imagine looking ten years younger, in two weeks time.

Using a safe, purified Botulinum toxin® we are able to reduce the effects of ageing, revitalising the skin and rejuvenating the face. Results appear in two weeks and last for up to 4 months.

Dermal fillers are available for the treatment of deeper, more established lines and folds. Dermal fillers are non-permanent gels made from hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in the body. Results are seen immediately and last for approximately 8 months. When used in conjunction with Botulinum toxin®, dermal fillers add volume and can re-define the lips to great effect.

At the Briars we believe in providing the highest standards of care in non- invasive facial aesthetics therefore The Briars Dental Centre is registered with IHAS, an independent regulator for the cosmetic industry.

Relaxing Injections

Ageing is accompanied by the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. These lines are the result of repeated crinkling of the skin that occurs when you smile or frown. Non-surgical cosmetic treatment with purified botulinum toxin (Botox ®) can smoothen wrinkles and lessen dynamic lines, giving the face a younger, fresher look.

Botox ® and Azzalure

We use industry-leading products only that have been tried and tested for many years without any long-term problems. Both of these products contain purified botulinum toxin A and I find give the best results. Botulinum toxin A temporarily blocks the release of a chemical at the nerve endings of a muscle to stop it from contracting. The relaxation of this muscle lessens the tension of the face and ultimately reduces lines and wrinkles. If lines are present without movement, these are called static lines and these may improve slightly with botulinum toxin A, however they may also need additional treatment with a dermal filler.

Treatment of Lines and Wrinkles with toxins

Wrinkle relaxing injections can temporarily reduce or even eliminate frown, forehead and smile lines. Crow’s feet can also be treated. The process is quick and comfortable with results seen after a few days. The treatment can be repeated after 3-4 months although some patients may find it lasts longer. Side-effects are rare and normal activities can be resumed straight away. Treatment with botulinum toxin be used in conjunction with a dermal filler to remove any remaining lines present during rest.

As botulinum toxin is a prescription-only treatment, a consultation beforehand is essential to ascertain suitability.

“I love what you did last time, and it’s lasted so well. I’ve been recommending you to everyone.”

“Absolutely perfect. No crows feet, no wrinkles. Perfect!”

Skin Peels

What is a Skin Peel?

There are several different types of peels that I offer, glycolic acid, lactic acid and Jessner.

Peels use a chemical to remove outer layers of the skin. This improves the condition of the skin and stimulates growth of new cells. There are three types of skin peel:

  • Superficial
  • Medium
  • Deep

Each peel uses a different chemical strength which varies the pH of the peel. A lower pH peel will penetrate deeper layers of the skin. Not all peels are safe to use on all skin types. Very deep peels can cause scarring and pigmentation, so I only offer a range of low pH, superficial to medium peels. When deciding on the depth of your peel, it is best to consult a healthcare professional. Many beauticians are not licensed to use the most effective glycolic peel treatments.

How do Peels Work?

Peels are very simple. First the skin is primed using a complementary skin care product for unto 2 weeks. After preparation, the face is cleaned and the skin peel applied. The treatment must be applied for up to 7 minutes. Peels have a wide range of applications including:

  • Fading acne scars
  • Preventing acne outbreaks
  • Balancing oily skin
  • Reducing pores
  • Evening out pigmentation
  • Lightening age spots
  • Treating sun damage
  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles

Are There any Side Effects?

When performed by a healthcare professional peels are very safe. You may experience some of the following side effects:

  • warmth in the skin
  • tingling
  • itching
  • slight sting
  • redness
  • increased sensitivity to the sun.

Scarring and pigmentation can occur when improperly used, but to prevent this I undergo a full consultation with my clients and only offer medium to superficial skin peels. You should always use a high quality, high factor sunscreen following a peel. As the outer layers of dead skin are removed, your skin becomes more susceptible to the sun’s rays increasing chances of sunburn. I advise using sunscreen on your face all year round regardless.

Glycolic Peel

The Neostrata Glycolic Peel is a versatile glycolic peel system with a wide range of uses. It can be used on the face, hands, neck, back, arms and décolletage to stimulate fresh skin cell growth and remove dead cells, promoting healthier and younger looking skin. I highly recommend this treatment for sufferers of acne as it effectively treats the damage whilst balancing the pH and oil levels of the skin. Th Neostrata pro-peel system is made up of several strengths of glycolic acid, plus two targeted solutions. The two targeted solutions can be used either alone or in conjunction with the glycolic acid peel. Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid, which is highly effective at resurfacing the skin and increasing the skin moisture levels.

Lactic Acid

Similar to glycolic acid, lactic acid is a fruit acid peel. They are extremely effective but very mild. As they have little downtime it means they are ideal for the client who wants to see an improvement with their skin but does not want to peel.

Jessner Peel

The Jessner Peel is a light to medium depth peel which uses three peeling agents (resorcinol, lactic acid and salicylic acid), all of which act slightly differently. This is a stronger peel than most superficial chemical peels and is ideal for more intense treatments. I use the Therderm Jesssner solution for these peels. This peel is ideal for smoothing and rejuvenating sun damaged skin, mild acne, sun spots, moderate wrinkling and actinic damage and can also be used on the neck, hands, chest and arms. Due to the high strength of this treatment you will experience more temporary damage. Some down time is expected after the treatment as the skin will discolour and peel. Therefore it is important to use a high quality sunscreen throughout the treatment and avoid using make-up shortly after. A course of treatments is recommended for optimal effect. Once completed, results can maintained by having refresher peels every few months, the frequency of which depends on the peel system.

“That peel is amazing! My face looks so much better. Thank you so much!”

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Over time a face loses its volume, causing skin to sag and lines to appear. You can revitalise your face and add volume with a dermal filler, ultimately making your skin look fresher and more youthful. I use modern, well tested hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers to temporarily replace missing volume and hydrate the skin. The extra volume reduces lines and wrinkles whilst smoothing skin. Modern day dermal fillers have come along in leaps and bounds, there are now a wide variety of safe products that can be tailored to a specific problem. I also use a product called Ellansé™ which is a collagen booster that corrects wrinkles and folds by stimulating your own collagen. This gives a more gradual but longer-lasting effect.

How do Dermal Fillers work?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring chemical found in our bodies. HA provides elasticity and volume to the skin, but with age, the levels of HA in the body decline. The decrease in HA can cause wrinkles, sagging and lack of suppleness in the skin. A dermal filler replaces lost HA whilst stimulating the skin to create new collagen and elastin. After the first treatment, the amount of HA needed to gain the same effect is reduced. I only use products that have been rigorously tested to guarantee their safe and effective use. The product is resorbed over time but HA fillers generally last for 6-18 months depending on the particular product, and Ellansé™ can last for up to 4 years. Different fillers are used for different procedures and the choice will depend on what is most suitable for you.

Where can Dermal Fillers be Applied?

Lips

HA dermal fillers are highly effective at enhancing the smile by defining the border and fullness of the lips. Smokers lines can be dramatically reduced. Skinboosters are an ideal filler for those who want hydration without adding volume. Hydration is extremely important in restoring plumpness to the lips and removing cracks.

Lines

Dermal fillers can be used to fill out scars, wrinkles and depressions in the skin, in particular areas such as the mouth, the chin, the forehead and around the eyes.

Tear Troughs

The tear trough is the area under the eye which can start to look sunken and shadowy with age. Redensity [II] is a Teosyal HA dermal filler product specifically designed to treat the delicate tear trough area with a mixture of hyaluronic acid, amino-acids, and minerals. Results can be seen immediately with little down-time.

Cheeks

Dermal fillers can be used to add volume to the cheeks and redefine the face. Treatment in this area has the added benefit of naturally lifting the lower parts of the face and reducing lines from the mouth to nose and the mouth to chin.

Is the Treatment Uncomfortable?

Anaesthetics are not always required because the products have it in them, but where necessary topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated. Local anaesthetic can be administered where necessary or if preferred. Dental experience lends a hand when administering anaesthetic. Thanks to many years of practice, patients rarely feel any discomfort. Using either micro-injections or a micro-cannula the dermal filler is carefully injected into the area to be treated and massaged gently. Results are seen immediately and post-operative instructions will be provided. Sometimes more than one procedure is required to achieve the desired result. For this reason a complimentary consultation is essential.
