Implant Supported Dentures

A lot of people suffer in silence because either one or both of their complete (or full), dentures fits poorly. Despite their dentist trying desperately to help by – for example – relining them. Combined with loss of bone over time, this just does not work! The sufferer then has to resort to using denture adhesive, and if that works, has to continually remove the old glue from the denture and gums on a daily basis. It’s not good is it!
Some wearers report continual feelings of embarrassment, perhaps with regard to a partner. Poor fitting dentures may cause a variety of issues, including:
- Confidence issues with the continual fear that a denture may at worst, fall out or at least be seen to wobble or drop when speaking to someone.
- Ill-fitting dentures, especially bottom dentures, may have profound effects on the wearer’s speech. This can affect both work and domestic situations, having drastic effects on one’s confidence.
- Finally and perhaps most importantly, dentures that simply do not do their job will affect what the wearer eats, which can have profound effects on health and wellbeing. “I just want to be able to enjoy a meal” is a common frustration.
The bottom line is that Dentures that are not physically secure can have a whole host of negative life changing effects!
A stable foundation and secure anchorage for the denture is vital. This is where (Osseointergated) Dental Implants come in. Implants can play a life transforming role. Dental Implants have been used for over 40 years and have been used to help millions of people the world over.
Dental Implants are titanium pegs that – when in the jaw – fuse to the jaw bone, securely anchoring them in place, effectively acting as “new roots”. Then by means of an interconnecting bar, the implants clip to the denture base and then locate and securely anchor the overdentures in place. If several Implants are used even more security can be gained, so much so that dentures could even be dispensed with and bridges made instead.
Either way, by using Dental Implants it can be possible to give back the wearer the ability to eat, speak and smile with confidence!
