Phil Ower, one of the UK’s leading periodontists qualified from King’s College London in 1978 and joined the RAF shortly after graduation. During his time with the RAF, Phil undertook an MSc in Periodontology and graduated in 1992. As the RAF’s leading adviser in periodontology, Phil managed the RAF School of Dental Hygiene.
After leaving the RAF, Phil lectured at the renowned Eastman Dental Institute and served in several specialist dental practices. For 10 years Phil worked alongside Bernie Kieser at the Periodontal Practice in London before focusing his efforts on the Briars Dental Centre in Newbury. Phil maintains a position on the GDC’s Specialist Register.
Phil was an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MGDS) for over a decade and has served two terms on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology (BSP) including BSP President in 2016.
Phil has had papers published in the following journals:

Phil has also served on the editorial boards of Dental Health and Primary Dental Care, and has recently published a new textbook ‘Practical Periodontics’ for dental undergraduates. He currently lectures throughout the UK and internationally.
